Benitez is now ready to lead Chelsea after his previous snub

Rafa Benitez will meet Chelsea’s shell-shocked players today after being appointed interim manager in the wake of Roberto Di Matteo’s brutal dismissal. Sportsmail exclusively revealed yesterday that  Di Matteo was to be sacked and replaced by  Benitez after Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat against Juventus. The axe duly fell at the club’s training ground in the early hours of yesterday morning. Owner Roman Abramovich wants former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola to be Di Matteo’s long-term  successor, and has offered to make him the highest-paid manager in the world on £15million a year. Gardiola’s representatives say he will not make a decision on his future until the new year, but it is understood a deal with Chelsea has been agreed in principle. He was approached after Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on October 23. Benitez, who is unpopular with Chelsea fans because of his time as Liverpool manager, will take charge of his first game against Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Fans reacted angrily to his appointment, with Chelsea Supporters Group chair Trizia Fiorellino telling Radio5 Live: ‘Chelsea pulled the rug from under Roberto Di Matteo, which was just ludicrous. Now they have got in someone of Benitez’s  calibre. He is a poor manager. Nobody has wanted to employ him for two years. What does that tell you? He is the wrong choice for Chelsea and the fans do not want him.

76 (and counting) reasons why Messi could be better than Pele...

The swish of a left boot, a helpless goalkeeper getting neck ache as he watches the ball arc over his head, goal for Lionel Andres Messi. Check it out on YouTube. May 1, 2005 is the date and Albacete are the opponents. A baby-faced Argentine magician, aged 17 years, 10 months and seven days, becomes the youngest Barcelona player in history to score a league goal. As Messi bounced in celebration with cheeky provider Ronaldinho, who could have guessed that the first would lead to a flood and then a torrent?
With each strike another record tumbles, which is not reassuring news for Saudi Arabia goalkeepr Waleed Abdullah after Messi grabbed his 75th and 76th goals of 2012 in Sunday’s 4-2 La Liga win over Mallorca. Messi, 25, has nine games left to net 10 goals and score more in a calendar year than anyone in history, starting on Wednesday in Riyadh when Argentina take on Saudi Arabia. His run of form reads 15 goals in 11 matches, which suggests it is only a matter of when, not if, Messi breaks the record. Sunday’s double against Mallorca took Messi past Pele, who scored 75 goals in 53 matches in 1958 for Santos and Brazil. It also puts German legend Gerd Muller within his sights. The stocky forward hit 85 goals for Bayern Munich and West Germany in 1972. Messi has already surpassed Muller in terms of goals per season. In the 2011-12 campaign he scored 73, breaking the European club record set in 1972-73. In March he passed Cesar Rodriguez’s 57-year-old milestone of 232 goals to become Barca’s all-time leading scorer. He also scored a European Cup record-equalling 14 goals in the Champions League, netting a best of five goals in one game. Last week he was presented with his second Golden Boot award and he is again favourite to win the Ballon D’Or for the fourth successive year. ‘Leo’s records are spectacular,’ admitted Barcelona’s Tito Vilanova in what has to go down as one of the more obvious managerial pronouncements. ‘It’s spectacular when you think that he scores so many goals. Few players reach these numbers in seven or eight seasons.

Bin Laden's 'right-hand man' and terror suspect Abu Qatada will be back on our streets TOMORROW…

Home Secretary Theresa May today blamed the European Court of Human Rights for the Government's thwarted attempt to deport hate preacher and suspected terrorist Abu Qatada. Qatada today won his appeal against deportation to Jordan to face trial and will be released tomorrow after being granted bail, forcing security officials to monitor him around the clock at huge cost to British taxpayers. She accused the body of 'moving the goalposts' over the deportation of dangerous criminals and has vowed to kick the hate preacher out of the UK. An immigration appeals court blocked the deportation because judges were not convinced that no evidence obtained through torture would be used against Qatada in Jordan. Scroll down for video Terror suspect: Abu Qatada (pictured in April) has won his appeal against deportation to Jordan to face trial Terror suspect: Abu Qatada (pictured in April) has won his appeal against deportation to Jordan to face trial Special Immigration Appeals Commission judges said the British government 'has not satisfied us that ...there is no real risk' that statements obtained under torture would not be used at a trial abroad. Qatada - whose lawyers had previously insisted that he would not get a fair trial in Jordan - was allowed to stay in Britain in 1994, but the Government desperately wants him deported. Mrs May also blasted the original 'deeply unsatisfactory' ruling from the European Court of Human Rights earlier this year, which said he could not be removed because he risks facing trial on evidence obtained by torture. It is a huge setback for the Government which has been trying to force him out of the UK for a decade. The radical cleric, once described by a judge as Osama Bin Laden's right-hand man in Europe, has been fighting extradition to Jordan, where he was convicted of terror charges in his absence in 1999. Mrs May told the House of Commons today: 'It's deeply unsatisfactory that Abu Qatada has not already been deported to Jordan. It's also deeply unsatisfactory that the European Court of Human Rights continues to move the goalposts. The Government has been doing everything it can to get rid of Abu Qatada and will continue to do so.' The judge said he wanted to subject Qatada to ‘standard-style’ bail conditions and after seven years of detention, did not want to deprive him of his liberty. The cleric will be subject to a 16-hour curfew and will be allowed out between 8am and 4pm. He will be bailed to his home address, but the court earlier heard he and his family were planning to move. Qatada will have to wear an electronic tag and be barred from using the internet and forbidden from contacting certain named people. He is being held on bail pending any Home Office appeal. Mrs May was given assurances by Jordan that no evidence gained through torture would be used against Qatada, who would face a retrial there over the terror charges. Conservative MP Peter Bone said Mrs May should ignore the court's decision and put Qatada on a plane back to Jordan and deal with the legal ramifications later.

Good news -pepsi launches fat blocking soft drink

Pepsi special contains dextrin, which is used as a diet aid to reduce 'bad cholesterol' in the blood Pepsi special contains dextrin, which is used as a diet aid to reduce 'bad cholesterol' in the blood If you're watching your weight but diet soft drinks have never been to your taste, there could now be an alternative. Tomorrow Pepsi are launching a version of its cola drink that it claims acts as a fat blocker. Pepsi Special is made with dextrin - an indigestible form of dietary fibre. Studies on rats suggest this can reduce the absorption of fat in the body and lower cholesterol levels. There is no information about how much sugar and corn-syrup it contains, compared to standard Pepsi, but a spokesman said it would have a 'crisp refreshing and unique' aftertaste. The drink, which will first be sold in Japan, comes in a 'luxury' gold and black bottle with the Pepsi logo emblazoned on the side. Pepsi hope the drink will have the same runaway success as the Japanese drink Kirin Mets Cola, which also contains dextrin. It will be distributed by Suntory International. It is not the first time that Pepsi have released unusual versions of its drink in Japan. In the past they have sold cucumber and yoghurt-flavoured colas. This Christmas they will be selling Pepsi White, which will have a tangerine tang. Pepsi Special, which will cost 150Yen or £1.20
, joins a crowded functional food market in Japan. Here consumers can find everything from fat-fighting chocolate bars to age-defying alcoholic cocktails. There is no word yet on if and when Pepsi Special will go on sale in the U.S and Europe.
